Who is the publisher? Picture this: It's 1979, and the beloved Hardy Boys are getting a fresh new look! Simon & Schuster's Wanderer Books division started publishing the series in paperback format – quite the departure from the traditional hardcovers fans had known for decades. Though these new books kept the familiar "Hardy Boys Mystery Stories" name, they sported more modern cover art that evolved over time – some books even featured multiple different covers depending on when you bought them! Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew collectors have their own special nickname for these Simon & Schuster editions – they call them "Digests" because they resemble those smaller, digest-sized paperbacks rather than the classic hardcovers from Grosset & Dunlap. Interestingly, this format change was actually a point of contention! The series' publisher, Adams, made the switch to Simon & Schuster specifically because they embraced this new paperback format while Grosset & Dunlap resisted the change. Fast forward to 2005, when nostalgia struck! Grosset & Dunlap republished the first eight Wanderer volumes (#59-66), alongside the first eight Nancy Drew volumes from the same era. These reprints had a good run but eventually went out of print in 2013, making them special finds for dedicated collectors today.
